Start with ReelRecs or Taste when you want personal movie suggestions. Choose Letterboxd when your main goal is a diary, lists and film discussion. Use JustWatch when you already have a title and need to find a provider. You can keep more than one if each has a clear job.
Movie App Guide is published by ReelRecs, Inc. This is a source-based comparison, with ReelRecs workflow evidence. It is not a claim of independent testing of every app.

Choose what you need help with
If personal discovery is the job
Try one app with titles you know well, including both favorites and films you disliked. Then inspect a few unfamiliar suggestions. Can you understand the next step? Do the suggestions make you curious? A recommendation system needs enough input to learn something useful, and an appealing score still needs your judgment.
ReelRecs makes its Rec Score visible on title pages and in its For You feed. Taste describes discovery through other people who share your taste. Those approaches are reasons to compare the experience; they do not establish which app predicts your enjoyment more accurately.
If you already use Letterboxd
Keep the history you value. A second app earns its place only if it helps with a decision your current diary and friends do not resolve. You can test a recommendation app without assuming you must move every review or saved title.
If tonight is the only problem
Choose three plausible films, check access and make a decision. Installing and training a new app can be worthwhile for future evenings. It may add unnecessary setup when you already have a short list tonight.
A score is one part of the choice
The Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer reports the share of positive critic reviews. IMDb reports a weighted user average. A personal recommendation score answers a different question about your taste. Avoid converting one into another or treating a personal score as a guaranteed chance of enjoyment.
